Rainer & Noel’s 9th Annual Family CAMP Event in Flamingo
January 2017 – Another year, another great Family CAMP overnight event in Everglades National Park! More than 230 people including a ton of kids joined us on the last weekend in January for the 9th annual Family CAMP weekend in Flamingo – an annual event that raises money for camping programs in the park. The kids had an absolute blast – riding bikes, exploring trails, playing games – and STILL they managed to slow down long enough to meet Ranger Shauna, learn about the park’s wildlife, and touch a manatee bone! At the end of Shauna’s program, the kids had a chance to vote for the park’s coolest animal. The manatee bone should of clinched it, but the winner was… the horseshoe crab! The margin of victory was small (two, maybe three hands) but the upset over manatees was huge! This will be remembered for a long time. Thanks to all the families (50+) who camped with us this year and took home memories. Special thanks to SFNPT board members Rainer and Noel Schael for hosting another amazing family CAMP weekend in the Everglades. See you next year!
