Registration Now OPEN for Biscayne Education Programs

September 2019 – Biscayne National Park education staff is gearing up for another spectacular season. Registration for Environmental Education Programs is now OPEN! If you are new to Biscayne National Park’s programming we recommend you familiarize yourself with our program options before registering. 
Biscayne’s school programming for 2019-2020 focuses on 4th-grade students and is FREE of charge.

You will need the following information to register:

  • Lead teacher name and email address
  • Estimated number of students and chaperones
  • 1st and 2nd choice dates
               o    Please consider testing dates, spring break, and early release days.
               o    If your preferred dates are not available, we will contact you with alternative dates.
               o    If your school is available for programs during testing, please indicate that on your registration form.
Students Dissect a Lion Fish at Biscayne NP

BISCAYNE EXPLORER:
(For up to 60 students) A standards-based, ranger-led program that brings the practice of science to life through observation and experimentation. Students rotate through three activities. Students will look at the life inside a drop of water through the Park’s microscope plankton lab. Students will learn how Biscayne Bay connects to the South Florida watershed through salinity testing and modeling. Students will learn how corals are adapted to survive natural threats by testing their own model. Explorer Request Form

Fish On! Park Boat Tour
(For up to 25 students) A standards-based, ranger-led program that immerses 4th-grade students in Biscayne’s maritime habitats. Students have an opportunity to connect the seagrass communities to our marine fisheries through ranger narratives and first-hand observation of the ecosystems which surround them on a boat tour across Biscayne Bay. Time permitting, students will catch and release fish in Biscayne Bay. Through identifying and measuring their catch students can learn how scientists collaborate to monitor and inventory the fish protected within Biscayne and how their data can be used to observe trends in fish populations over time. Fish-On Request Form

CLASSROOM PROGRAM (30 students per program, 4 programs per ranger visit)Invite Biscayne National Park Rangers into your classroom. Rangers will set-up a microscope lab in your classroom and bring water samples to explore. Students will learn to use microscopes, prepare wet slides and peer into a drop of water. Students will observe the structure of diatoms and phytoplankton and see copepods and zooplankton zoom across their screens.  Classroom Program Request Form

FREE Bus transportation is available for Title I Schools. Please submit a Bus Request Form if you qualify.
