History-makers; Biscayne National Park Pioneers Tell Their Stories
HOMESTEAD, FL – Biscayne National Park is hosting a free discussion with local history-makers about the creation of the park 50 years ago. The discussion takes place on Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center auditorium.
When two large development proposals threatened Biscayne Bay a small but persistent group led the charge to protect the area and make it a national park. Pioneers and panelists discussing these events include:
- Lloyd Miller, an avid angler and author of Biscayne National Park: It Almost Wasn’t
- Nathaniel Reed, Assistant Secretary of the Interior in the Nixon Administration and author of the new book Travels on the Green Highway: An Environmentalist’s Journey
- Lacey Hoover, Chair of the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation and daughter of Herbert W. Hoover, Jr.
- John C. Nordt, Miami surgeon and former resident of Elliott Key
- Dr. Jim Kushlan, co-author of the new book Biscayne National Park, is the discussion moderator
- Gary Bremen, long-time Biscayne National Park ranger
Questions will be taken from the audience, authors will be available for book signings and books will be available for purchase.
